BAM! Surprise bonus review—well, actually I guess I don’t really have the audience for anyone to be surprised or not surprised by this bonus review, but I’ll just pretend like I do. Anyway, I came across this document while doing research for Evil Dead D6—yes, I actually do research on these things—and it seemed interesting, so I decided to review it. But since it’s so short, I decided not to count it as a regularly-scheduled review.

Evil Dead: Swallow This! Is a campaign supplement for d20 Modern—aka “that other d20 game from Wizards of the Coast.”—which puts players somewhere in the alternate history of the ending of Evil Dead: Hail to the King! Players basically take on the roles of the few people crazy enough to fight off the in an exciting horror-slapstick style. The book provides a decent summary of events of the three films and Hail to the King!, which gives a pretty good idea of the what, where, how, and why of the world. There’s also a timeline detailing important events of the films, Hail to the King!, and Fistful of Boomstick—which doesn't really have relevance to the setting beyond a thematic one.
Writing and Presentation: 2/5
Swallow This! is very much written with the tone of the Evil Dead series in mind, it’s a bit tongue in cheek, a bit dumb action, and a bit “attention S-Mart shoppers.” The layout is pretty basic two-column text with uncomfortably red titles… so basically it’s a document from 2003. There’s also so weird kerning issues on the titles, which I assume is due to the fonts not loading/displaying properly.
Content: 2/3 [•]
There’s a heap of new weapons, spells, and deadites, plus new skills like ‘Duct-Tape Engineering’ and new uses for existing skills—notable, Spellcraft and Use Magic Device are now usable untrained since magic being used by people who really shouldn't be using magic is an important part of the Evil Dead series. There’s also a selection of new feats and combat rules for things like firing and reloading guns one-handed—since your other hind might be a chainsaw—firing over your shoulder, chainsaw impales, blowing off heads with point-blank shotgun blasts, etc. Basically, it’s just a bunch of very Evil Dead type stuff.
Final Remarks
Provided you don’t mind d20 Modern, this is definitely I good way to get your game on in the world of the Evil Dead series. It draws a little heavily from the games, but that kinda makes sense since it is a game.
